Essay Topics For Sixth Graders

Essay Topics For Sixth GradersMany first-year teachers are beginning to consider essay topics for sixth graders. By this time, sixth graders have already learned the basics of reading and writing, but now it is time to explore their real interests. One important question to ask first is how do they read and write? If you are struggling with your own students, ask yourself, 'How do I help my students to recognize the most important words?' Don't give them back stories about learning to read and write or vocabulary lists.Themes - A theme is usually set around a topic that the child has explored in school. Make sure that the theme reflects that topic, then let the child suggest the next theme, as you ask, 'Why is that important to you?'Reading and Writing - The idea is to make sure that reading and writing are a real interest for them. If you try to force them to read every single word of an essay, it can be distracting and they may not see the point of it at all.Questions - Introduce th e theme, then let the child get the questions. They will have to think for themselves and come up with the answer, but that is what teachers are there for, so you should let them be as creative as possible.Themes - Many students are interested in science and technology. Let them come up with topics that deal with these subjects and let them write essays about these topics.Personal Life - Some students are more concerned with their own life than what their school has to say. Ask them to research their personal life and let them tell you what they found out.
